MAFS’s Mel Schilling Shares Heartbreaking Update on Cancer Journey

Initial Symptoms and Diagnosis

Mel Schilling, the renowned relationship expert from “Married At First Sight,” has opened up about her ongoing battle with cancer. In December 2023, she received the devastating diagnosis after experiencing intense abdominal pain and unexplained weight loss. Initially, her symptoms were mistaken for constipation, but further investigation revealed the presence of a tumor in her colon.

Devastating News and Treatment

Recalling the moment she received the diagnosis, Schilling said, “I think I was numb… I didn’t process it and I went into work mode, that’s all I could focus on.” Shortly after, she underwent colon surgery to remove the tumor, but the cancer had metastasized into her colon’s muscle tissue. As a result, she began chemotherapy treatment in late February.

Third Cycle of Chemotherapy

Currently, Schilling is on her third cycle of chemotherapy. She recently shared on UK’s Magic FM that she’s experiencing symptoms similar to a hangover. “It’s starting to feel like being hungover, like I’ve been drinking all night,” she explained. Despite these challenges, she remains determined and has no plans of slowing down.

Juggling Work and Treatment

Schilling expressed her commitment to continue working while undergoing treatment. “I’m just now trying to find the way to juggle everything, because I’m not stopping working. This thing is not beating me, I’m here to fight, I just need to make some adaptations,” she stated.

Embracing the Journey

In the face of adversity, Schilling has maintained a positive outlook. She has become an ambassador for Octopus, a colorectal charity, and uses her platform to raise awareness about cancer detection and prevention. “I’ve always been the person that’s going to make a difference, and this isn’t going to stop me,” she said.

Key Tips for Early Detection
