A small Swiss protocol posted the biggest one-day gain in DefiLlama's real-world-asset category this week. Its tracked value went up roughly nineteen times in 24 hours. No transaction caused it.
The protocol is Aktionariat, a Zurich company that turns shares in private Swiss firms into ERC-20 tokens. Its DefiLlama page read $350,294 on August 11 and $6,823,102 on August 12, a jump of 1,848%. Almost all of it landed on Ethereum, where the figure went from $340,839 to $6,813,782. The Polygon side barely twitched, from $9,454 to $9,434.
What Aktionariat Sells
Swiss law lets a company issue its shares directly onto a blockchain. Article 973d of the Swiss Code of Obligations, the part added by the country's DLT Act, recognizes ledger-based securities — a share registered in a distributed ledger rather than on paper or in a bank's book. Most of these issuances are done out of Zug. The share becomes an ERC-20 token, often labeled a SHA token, and it sits in an ordinary Ethereum wallet.
Aktionariat's product around that is the Brokerbot: an on-chain market maker holding a company's share tokens on one side and a Swiss franc stablecoin on the other. Buyers pay in Frankencoin (ZCHF) or CryptoFranc (XCHF) and receive shares from the contract. That inventory is what DefiLlama counts. The adapter says so in one line: it "counts the tokens locked on brokerbots, pulling the brokerbot addresses from the 'aktionariat/brokerbot' subgraph."

The Balances Give It Away
DefiLlama publishes raw token quantities next to dollar values, and the raw side is where this falls apart. For three days running, the tracker saw four tokens in those contracts: 119,827 ZCHF, 17,196 DAKS, 11,171 BOSS and 144 XCHF. On August 12 it reported fourteen. The three that were already there did not move. DAKS is still 17,196. BOSS, still 11,171. ZCHF slipped by eleven units over the whole week.
Eleven company share tokens appeared at once with the franc balance flat. Money arriving at eleven separate market makers on the same morning would have shown up as francs going in and shares going out. The opposite happened, which is to say nothing happened.
The adapter did not change either. Aktionariat's DefiLlama integration was merged in April 2023 and last touched on June 17, 2024, when Polygon support was added. The code that decides which contracts to read has been the same for over two years.
What changed is pricing. Those Swiss share tokens were always in the Brokerbots; they were counted at nothing because nobody had a price for them. DefiLlama's public price API still returns an empty result for the EHCK, VEGS and REALU contract addresses, so the new valuations are not coming from its general coin feed. They are coming from the separate RWA asset coverage the site has been building, which now carries dedicated pages for individual tokenized shares. Switch the price feed on and $6.5 million appears out of an accounting change.
Who Is Actually In There
The newly priced inventory is more interesting than the headline number. These are real operating companies, verifiable by contract on Ethereum, and the list reads nothing like a DeFi protocol's balance sheet.
| Token | Issuer | Value counted, Aug 12 |
|---|---|---|
| SSAS | SwissShore AG | $1,372,996 |
| EHCK | EHC Kloten Sport AG (ice hockey club) | $932,087 |
| RSAS | Revario SA | $845,368 |
| AFS | Alan Frei Company | $573,088 |
| VEGS | Outlawz Food | $554,726 |
| TBOS | TBo, c/o Comon Accelerator Holding AG | $254,382 |
| REALU | RealUnit Schweiz AG | $168,862 |
Sit with the second row for a second. EHC Kloten plays in Switzerland's National League, the top tier of Swiss ice hockey, and its participation certificates are an ERC-20 token at 0x17f7FEa5F87d0F289d9827be78fc96027F8Ed724. A fan can hold a slice of the club in the same wallet as their ETH. The certificates are ledger-based securities under Swiss law, wrapped so the shareholder agreement travels with the token. That is a genuinely novel thing, and it has been quietly working for years without a marketing cycle attached to it.
Smaller lines include parknsleep AG, the crowdfunding platform wemakeit, Boss Info AG and Aktionariat's own shares. RealUnit Schweiz AG is the one with a foot in the regulated world: it tokenized with Aktionariat in April 2022 and became the first issuer lined up for trading on TDX, the organized trading facility run by Swiss securities firm Taurus.
Why This Number Is Weak Everywhere
Aktionariat ranks 62nd of 153 protocols in DefiLlama's RWA category, which totals about $27.4 billion. The top of that table is institutional cash: BlackRock's BUIDL at $3.53 billion, Tether Gold at $3.13 billion, Circle's USYC at $3.01 billion. Those are funds with daily redemptions and a net asset value someone is contractually on the hook for.
Tokenized equity behaves differently. Across the market, stocks and equities account for roughly $2.7 billion of on-chain value against about $78 million actually deposited in DeFi protocols. The tokens exist and mostly sit still.
The honest reading
This column measures inventory at an internal quote. The shares in a Brokerbot were put there by the issuer so the contract has something to sell, which makes "value locked" the wrong label for it. It invites you to read the figure as demand, and one price feed switching on can move it nineteen times in a day.
How to Check the Next Spike Yourself
This takes about four minutes and works on any protocol page.
-
Read quantities, not dollars. DefiLlama's protocol API
returns a
tokensarray of raw balances beside thetokensInUsdarray. If the balances are flat and the dollars moved, it was a repricing. - Check the adapter's history. Every integration lives in the public DefiLlama-Adapters repository. A commit dated the same week as the spike is your answer.
- Look at the chain split. A move concentrated on one chain with the others frozen points at data, not flows.
- Follow the base currency. Real buying moves the stablecoin leg. A jump with no movement in the quote asset is bookkeeping.
None of this makes Aktionariat's business less real. Its customers are ordinary Swiss SMEs that wanted a shareholder register they could run from a browser, and Swiss law gave them a clean way to do it. The company has been doing this since 2020, long before anyone put "RWA" in a fund deck.
The number is what deserves suspicion. A hockey club's participation certificates now appear in the same table as BlackRock's money market fund, sorted by the same column, and that column cannot tell you which of the two you could sell this afternoon. When the tokenized-equity market gets big enough for people to allocate against these dashboards, that gap stops being a curiosity. Ask what a number counts before you let it move you.
